Growing Natives Garden Tour 2015
Los Altos Suburban (7 photos)
Garden #20, Los Altos
Showcase Features: The inviting front garden with the red chair on the patio catches everyone's eye as they walk by. Then they notice the lovely plantings of natives which include sculptural deer grass in the sun and ferns, currants, an espaliered currant, and a native wild strawberry ground cover in part shade. In the back, the homeowner just finished replacing the lawn and now has a large area planted with natives including grasses, penstemon, huckleberries, groundcover ceanothus and specimen ceanothus as well as a mature bush anemone.
Other Garden Attractions: This truly kid-friendly and dog-friendly garden includes a tree house, large circular decomposed granite path surrounding the native plantings, and a trampoline. The perfect place for the whole family to relax and have fun.
Gardening for Wildlife: Hummingbirds, blue jays, robins, titmouse, newts, and butterfly visit this garden. The dog patrols the garden so raccoons don't tip over the lovely bird bath.
