Growing Natives Garden Tour 2015
Bay Maples: Wild California Gardens (14 photos)
Garden #54, San Jose
Showcase Features: Home of Alan Hackler, owner of Bay Maples: Wild California Gardens, the garden showcases a rainwater tank that pours into a dry creek surrounded by Rushes, Monkeyflowers, Dudleya, St. Catherine's Lace, Deer Grass, Ceanothus 'Heart's Desire', Toyon, Ghostly Manzanita (A. silvicola) and a Yarrow lawn. Recycled materials are highlighted in the gabion bench and unique container planting of Ferns and Catalina Perfume.
Other Garden Attractions: Community building in the neighborhood: in the front yard is a redwood Little Free Library stand (take a book, return a book!). Alan is also landscaping the corner lot next door, which was filled with weeds, but now hosts recycled materials (including a brick spiral herb garden), fruit trees and natives (Ceanothus, Manzanita, etc.).
☺ Garden Talk: "Water Saving Strategies" at 12 PM - also get a tour including the backyard with chickens and a cob oven.
