Growing Natives Garden Tour 2015
Pink and Purple (4 photos)
Garden #51, San Jose
Showcase Features: This urban front yard is a great example of what can be accomplished in a relatively small space. An attractive no-mow lawn of clumping red fescue catches the eye in any season. Near the house, a large 'Ray Hartman' ceanothus becomes a focal point in the spring with heavy bloom. Side fence covered witht the naive California grape provides purple-red color during much of the winter. There are several low-growing manzanitas near the sidewalk along with the 'Concha' ceanothus and a Salvia. Near the driveway, a patch of native buckwheat and California fuchsia attracts beneficial insects, bees, and hummingbirds. The pink and purple colors are provided primarily by wildflowers and the currant bush planted near the house.
Other Garden Attractions: Three raised beds are used for vegetable gardening.
