Growing Natives Garden Tour 2011
Reed Garden (4 photos)
Garden #32, Cupertino
Showcase Features: The owners of this garden replaced a thirsty lawn with an attractive collection of natives including Yankee Point and Diamond Heights ceanothus, Carmel Sur manzanita, and a variety of perennials that provide year-round color and fragrance. Some existing succulents and other low-water plants were saved for the maturity, color and texture that they add to the garden.
Other Garden Attractions: Using the rebate from the Santa Clara Valley Water District, the owners were able to stretch their dollars to include attractive, round-edged concrete steps, a dry creek bed, and a whimsical chair made from reclaimed wood.
Gardening for Wildlife: The seeds, berries, and nectar plants attract beneficial insects, butterflies, and birds.
