Growing Natives Garden Tour 2017
San Jose Nativescape (9 photos)
Garden #52, San Jose
Showcase Features: The native plant landscaping in front of this beautiful ranch-style house seems particularly well-integrated with its charming Mexican architecture. The linear lot is landscaped with a variety of native shrubs like toyon, manzanita, coffeeberry, sage, and ceanothus, while retaining several legacy trees. Bunchgrasses small (Pacific reedgrass) and large (deergrass) add interest.
Other Garden Attractions: The wide parking strip between the curb and sidewalk uses deergrass effectively. Paved surfaces provide pedestrian access from the street to the sidewalk at several points.
Gardening for Wildlife: Bird feeders and hummingbird feeders are in use. Hummingbirds, squirrels, and crows have been observed.
