Growing Natives Garden Tour 2013
Sunnydale Avenue Garden (3 photos)
Garden #6, San Carlos
Showcase Features: A great demonstration of how attractive a front garden can be without a lawn, this garden features perennials and small shrubs for year round visual interest. Low growing manzanita bloom in winter, followed by ceanothus, salvias, and finally California fuchsia in summer and fall. The bright green of a low-growing coyote brush contests with the dark green leaves of coffeeberry. And a path of stepping stones in decomposed granite pulls everything together, with the stepping stones harmonizing with stone work that's part of the house.
Other Garden Attractions: Two giant chain ferns on both sides of the front steps add an almost format feeling - a clever contrast to the natural-looking perennials and shrubs.
Gardening for Wildlife: Year round blooms attract birds and pollinators.
