Growing Natives Garden Tour 2017
Essert Garden (4 photos)
Garden #66, Campbell
Showcase Features: The front is a lovely self-designed and installed garden, with a long central berm and a dry-creek bed. A mature Western redbud and a young live oak are featured, with a nice collection of lower growing native bunch grasses, ceanothus and manzanita ground covers, California fuschia and other natives placed along the berm and under trees. The next-door neighbor has followed suit with lawn replaced by a low water design. The owners have put in a rain collection system, have solar panels and efficient drip irrigation.
Other Garden Attractions: The back is in transition, with a meadow of wildflowers, native shrubs and grasses, narrow-leaf milkweed. A beehive block attracts native bees and the yard is a haven for birds and other wildlife.
